Lets assume you’re an immigration restrictionist who is worried about demographics. Wouldn’t granting amnesty to a mere 700k immigrants, in exchange for a 2,000 mile wall—PLUS ending chain migration for tens of millions of future immigrants!—be a smart deal?https://twitter.com/johnstodder/status/956639500276396032 …

You underestimate the influence of pseudo-scientific eugenicist thinking on today’s GOP. You’ve heard of the US’ demographic destiny? That whites will be a minority in 25 years? It is ALL that Trump’s base thinks about. Even a POC like Cruz must pander to it. Still a Republican?

Please stop calling it “chain migration.” It’s always been referred to as family reunification until recently.

The GOP base supports the Hastert Rule. Their political principle is "no compromise." Their constituency is the future of the white race in America & they see any "amnesty" as a betrayal of their mission. They think they can prevail through ruthless, Trumpian politics, not deals.

Why say "chain migration" when the term codified in US law for over 50 years is "family reunification"?

Except it isn't 700K its 3.6 million. & the Dems will flip it completely when they r in pwer. Rember the rule of law. I no thats hard 4 illiberals. Rewarding illegal bhavior destroys the rule of law. Where will u hide from the chumps who have been foolish enough to follow the law

No. You still have another 11m that have to be bashed at all times. Why do you think the GOP has so many racists, by pure accident?

Why do you think a wall, which should either be left incomplete or torn down by his successor, would do anything?

Yes. But there must be guaranteed complete funding and DACA must not go into effect until completion of wall and court challenges.

Not if they change the demographics of certain states (FL, AZ) so they never vote for republicans again. Which is what is happening.

Not necessarily, as many point out, thinking that wouldn't be quickly changed/defunded either by the courts or by new Democrats in power is naive. You'd need to trade a lot more.
