I’m starting to come around to this compromise. Often with compromise nobody’s happy, but if you can be happy you got something you want, maybe that’s enough. To me, DACA is worth it. I always enjoy reading your pieces, Matt, I don’t always agree, but I appreciate the fairness.

The only comment I have is by saying “the Dems have to compromise if they want the DACA deal” it sounds like the Dems are the only ones that care about DACA. This isn’t a question only for u @mattklewis but please answer if u have an opinion. I will say that is the message I see.

That’s the way Trump hears it, and that’s what counts.

You think Trump thinks that only the Democrats want the DACA deal? I just want to make sure understand your comment.

No, I think he’s only ‘listening’ to the people on his side against it. I think he believes the Republicans for DACA are part of the “establishment swamp” he promised his fringe he’d stop. He’s not just against Dems, he’s fighting Republicans too.

Makes perfect sense & I agree. Thank u for clarifying. If people are sincere about DACA they should make this a clean bill & not make these kids a political football. These are people’s lives, they are Americans as far I’m concerned & we should protect them

I agree with that 100%. Humans as bargaining chips is disgusting and it should be a clean bill.

We don't live in a perfect world. Politics is the art of the possible. It's also like making sausage, as they say.

I appreciate this column. I HATE the idea of the wall and all of the reasons you described that it is "bad." But a $20 billion symbolic win for Trump is worth it if we get genuine reform to DACA for Dreamers.

This whole conversation is without context. A true wall would cause whole species to go extinct, abridge property rights and separate communities. We should way the entire cost.

Yes, wall is bad idea. But problem is that trade @mattklewis proposes is a sucker deal for Dems. GOP needs a DACA deal too. Dems needs to keep wall leverage to legalize 12M. DACA has 80% support, should pass independently w/out concessions.
