@CNN I’m confused about the #MattLewis statement that #Trump finished 2017 strong. His approval rating is abysmal. The tax bill that he got passed is almost as unpopular as he is. For previous presidents, these factors would NEVER be labeled as successful.

However, that doesn’t make them strong. I don’t think it really counts as a score for him since it may lead to the loss of seats in 2018 if he and the bill continue on the current course. So maybe it’s a touchdown that was called back due to a flag on the play.

True. But you could say that about almost any substantial legislative victories—even ostensibly popular ones.

But I’m saying it about substantially unpopular legislation. Popular legislation tends to boost a president’s (and a party’s) popularity/ratings.
