Yes, we should do means testing. Interestingly, many liberals oppose this common sense idea.https://twitter.com/downsjm/status/943558368454520832 …

Basic question; if you cut-off Social Security in the future for say the "1%", does that even make a dent? Seems like there should be some career high-wage earners that should be phased out of SS. Low hanging fruit that people can agree on?

If you did away the social security income limit in conjunction with means testing it, many liberals will get on board.

Means testing, raise the retirement age for people under 50 to 69, adjust COLA increases to chained CPI for under 50 in top two thirds of earnings.

It's NOT common sense. Those 1% paid into Social Security as well. Why are you doing class warfare, an accusation Republicans always lob at Democrats? Those people should also get a return on the garnishing of their paycheck to pay for these programs.

I have been paying into SSI/Medicaid etc since 1967. If I am not going to get it back in a monthly check, I want ALL of it back in a lump sum plus interest. I shouldn't defray Government costs above the state/fed tax . Asshats

We already have some means testing which is why some pay taxes on their SS benefits. Has raised $300+ billion. Now we only need to find $3.5 trillion more to get us to 2033.

Liberals hate the upper 5% until it’s time for them to claim Social Security or Medicare.

I think they oppose it because there would not be much savings and fear that wealthy would stop supporting program. Why not just lift SS wage cap instead?

Bc they were forced to pay jnto system with promise of payout on retirement. This is not entitlement - it is forced insurance for when one reaches 67. Andnit had better be there when I reach that age.

Define “career high-wage earners”. And what threshold. I only became a middle-high wage earners in my 50’s , albeit much less than $200k. Depending on my 401k but also SsI and Medicare. This could kill husband and me especially medical.
