Or maybe they just realize that they pay into them with every paycheck they ever make and therefore would prefer that Congress not slash them at the same time they’re giving more and more breaks/cuts to those of us who least need them. Just a thought...

True. But two things 1.If a fam spent lavishly, getting out of control (60-70%), they'd find a diff way to do things, even diff places to shop 2.The family-meaning neither Ds nor Rs-are doing anything to even address the debt. Mom and pop gotta step up to save it for future gens

Basic question; if you cut-off Social Security in the future for say the "1%", does that even make a dent? Seems like there should be some career high-wage earners that should be phased out of SS. Low hanging fruit that people can agree on?
