Wait, I thought tax cuts always pay for themselves w/the economic growth they create. That's what orthodoxical Republicanism always tells us. Was that a lie?

Fiscal Conservatives believe in balanced budgets, restraining deficit spending and reducing the national debt. The GOP of 2017 ask what's in it for me? Political expediency over principle is the new norm in GOP.

When has reducing tax rates resulted in a drop in federal gov tax revenue? (never) Whole tax rate cut = bigger debt is bogus. Why keep this up? Past problem - gov revenue went up, politicians went spending crazy. THAT is problem. Think you know that.

This is so wrong as to be intentional. Kansas 2012, Reagan 1980 tax cuts raised the deficit from $1T to $2.5T. In fairness, and he raised taxes twice to offset. Bush tax cuts came coupled with low interest rate and likely spurred growth. Please read up on the Laffer curve

Gov revenues do not go down due to tax rate reductions. Tax rate reductions have always resulted in increased econ activity=increased revenue. Debt in 80s went up (after early 80s recession) due to massive spending increases.

Nope. Tax revenue decreased 200b first four years of the 80s. Then Reagan increased taxes in 82 83 84 and 87. Eventually revenues raised by the end of the 80s but the reasons are not certain enough that I would ever say “always”.

As I said, early 80s recession. Gov revenues are driven by economic activity much much more than by tax rates. Lower taxes spur econ activity = increased gov revenue.

That’s supposing you’re on the correct side of the Laffer curve. Again it’s your choice of the word always that’s the issue. Nothing else.

Sure, they matter now that they got their tax cuts passed, so now they will be shocked! shocked! at the level of debt and demand that everything except the defense budget needs to be cut. 😠

Is there some good writing on the balance between level of taxes and the amount of government services "we the people" accept and desire respectively? I find the "keep more of my money" vs " robbing the public treasury" tropes to be lacking.

You're talking about an anti-establishment view, because the biggest draw of funds away from those 'government services' is military/discretionary spending, which has wide bipartisan support.
