Part of the job of being president is to inspire and comfort. Low crime, unemployment, etc. is important—but it’s also important that Americans *feel* safe & prosperous. Who was the last president to excel at this? Reagan?https://twitter.com/mattklewis/status/941695940313968640 …

I don’t think people appreciate how important this tax bill is. IF it passes, GOP can say they (a) passed tax reform, (b) repealed individual mandate, (c) confirmed Gorsuch AND a ton of fed judges, & (d) got rid of job-killing regulations. On paper, that’s not a bad 2017 agenda.

I don’t think a lot of people of colour will say they feel safer under trump than Obama....know of family who openly get abused from people saying Trump will kick them out.

Obama was reassuring to some people, like me. Steady guy and I believed he thought things through even when I disagreed with is decisions.

I think this is true for many people. I think it's true for fewer people than it was Clinton. I rarely felt reassured under Obama's tenure.

I feel unsafe. Anxious. Nervous. Afraid. Every single day I am astounded that trump gets worse with his attacks on everything that is/was good in this country.

Think it depends what side you’re on. I remember hysteria from the left towards Reagan at or near Trump levels. But still a valid point you’re making.

Matt, I am no fan of Trump as POTUS. His lack of empathy gives him no moral base to inspire OR comfort. His soul has been Gamma Radiated by RoyCohn and his ilk.

None of those things test well w/ the public. This is the biggest disconnect GOPers have. Their policies aren't particularly popular, but for some reason, they think passing them will aid them electorally. Passing an unpopular agenda or no agenda - either way won't help w/ public
