I appreciate and respect your take - as usual - but i think this doesn't really matter anymore for those who make no separation between different MSM outlets anyway and only get their news from partisan sites. Ofc we should all be more critical about mistakes like that but....

...mostly this is just preaching to the choir - those who care about professional journalism in the first place. Decades of conservative MSM bashing led to the current political climate and only the conservative movement itself can decide that its own media world needs change.

The antidote to "liberal bias" is not "conservative bias"!

They are not "proving" the POTUS to be right; they are providing excuses for some to believe that he is right. Fake news is real, more real in the wake of social media but has always been around. Poor, me first, reporting is a totally different thing. POTUS knows it also.

Fake news is entirely accurate. The bulk of the media is a partisan wing of the DNC. No point in trying to rationalize it.

Who makes the case between reporting that is fake (and never corrected or even acknowledged as such) and reporting that is sloppy, inaccurate, (yet, is acknowledged and corrective action taken)? Seems the POTUS and Press Sec make no distinction and there is a reason for that!

True. Also true that Trump should also stop doing his best to make the anti-conservative bias in the media seem non-malarkeyish. I'm not holding my breath for either.

Your point about the media and Twitter is a good one as well and mirrors frustration by Rs with Trumps use of Twitter: they each build a personal following at the expense of their broader cause.

Freedom of the press exists so long as Congress makes no laws prohibiting it. True, journalists' jobs are at stake, not the free press.

I agree to a point, but while the media makes a few mistakes, Trump flat out lies on a regular basis. Don't call out the media unless you call out the Presidunce.

Oh give me a damned break. There will be the occasional error. Unlike Fox and the rest of the right wing media joke real news outlets accept them, correct the and take responsibility for them so you can know what is going on. This entire article is idiocy.

News is not a mistake-free enterprise, Matt. Never was. @foxnews' @BretBaier escaped sanction for falsely reporting HRC indictment last year. ABC, CNN hold feet to fire for far less. Accountability, in the end, is what matters.

Mistakes admitted to and corrected aren't "fake". Uranium One, Pizzagate, new Clinton emails are.
