You might hope that ideologically-driven partisans would simply stay home in his scenario. But expecting them to vote for the opponent feels both unrealistic and unfair.https://twitter.com/mattklewis/status/939507422246457345 …

I would vote for Romneyin the that scenario. Cruz not comparable to Jones.

Two points: 1) Doug Jones is not the Democratic equivalent of Ted Cruz 2) Roy Moore’s behavior before his pederastry was revealed was enough to disqualify him with many Alabama Republicans. Not same for Franken.

if a child molester was running against a blameless Republican and my party failed to mount a write in campaign I'd be out there handing out Republican flyers.

I identify as a Democrat most days. HRC was not really my choice in 2016. I knew she would win in the Alabama primary. Since I live in a red state, I vote in the REP primary for the REP I can stomach. I voted for Strange in the SEN primaries and Kasich in 2016 PRES primaries.

This scenario would never exist. That’s the key difference. Franken would have been forced out of race just like he was forced out of the Senate. It was clear Franken wanted to stay but Dem leadership said no. On the other hand the leader of the GOP is fully supporting Moore.

Conservative media treats pro-choice beliefs as being literally evil, while failing to point out how strong legal precedent is, or how even with Scalia it made no difference. Stop treating abortion like murder for 30 years and then we can talk.

It's a fair point and why I can't get outraged by the GOP support for Moore over this issue. But there are so many other reasons why he should be unacceptable to everyone, regardless of party.

A key difference is that the Democrats would abandoned Franklin in a Roy Moore situation and settle on a write in candidacy

Franken would stand down and/or a write-in campaign would be organized. Failing that, I write in someone else. Is this really supposed to be a hard question?

I get not wanting to vote for Doug Jones. I wouldn’t want franken to win, but I wouldn’t want to vote for Cruz to then he gets it and says oh you support my agenda bc you voted for me when I really just didn’t want franken
