    1) Kim is not Putin 2) If he invades South Korea what will you do? Did it occur to you that may be why they want the weapons? Read AEI's Nick Eberstadt on this. They already have what they need for regime preservation. https://twitter.com/MaxBoot/status/935622775032729600 …

This is not the cold war stand off of 'mutually assured destruction'. North Korea may hit one US city and they will then be destroyed in retaliation. There would not be some pin prick response from the US. Soviet Union had far greater capabilities.

If deterrence worked for people as crazy as Stalin and Khrushchev, hard to believe that Kim is crazier. They had much more motivation for expansion and less fear for survival, and it still worked.

We do nothing unless they attack us. If they invade South Korea, then we help defend SK.

The deterrence theory vis-a-vis us & the Soviets that Boot cites doesnt hold bc the current situation is different. We were willing to go MAD over Berlin bc to surrender Berlin would have risked surrendering Germany, then all of Europe, then directly threatening the US.

Kims have never been about exporting a global ideology ala the Soviets but they have always wanted Korean reunification. Fatty Kim III may (prob correctly) guess that the US wouldnt risk losing DC, NYC, San Fran, etc to save SK, when he has no further aggressive designs

With @marcthiessen We must send a message to NK Dictators like KJU only understand power and force. For NK - like Iran, diplomacy is only a way to distract from military growth and aggression.

@MaxBoot is dead right: you don’t escalate with a nuclear power, because you leave them no choice. If they invade SK, we fight, on the ground, not with ICBMs

Along the parallel, NK is literally dug in. They aren't in an offensive position; they're in a defensive position & they know that any sustained conflict with the south = the end of the regime. Their arsenal is purely for preservation. If terror nuke linked to them, they're dust.
