Take Hillary Clinton out of it: Why would President Obama approve of transferring of 20% of U.S. uranium holdings to Russia?
-
-
1. We have a surplus of uranium for weapons needs and the license allows extraction, not export.
-
2. Good (and reasonable) review by an opponent of the approval:https://www.lawfareblog.com/unpacking-uranium-one-hype-and-law …

If you follow the money the original transaction went to a mineral company from South Africa (that makes sense) then it merged with a
-
Canadian company UrAsia energy then Russia bought a 51% stake in that Company. Your question then is it ok to sell 20% of US uranium
-
deposits to South Africa? Yes, it’s all legal at this point & selling minerals is also like selling oil & gas worldwide

That’s what I don’t get. There isn’t a uranium shortage, so why from us?
-
Uranium 1 owned a large mine in Kazakhstan. Asset likely the desired asset. US uranium production is relatively nil plus one can’t export.
