You can argue that removing statues is iconoclasm & rewriting history. But you CAN'T argue Confederate statues are beautiful.

Taking down a "divisive" statue doesn't rewrite history. Puts in classroom where it belongs. Still taught-no statue: McCarthy, Manson, et al

Yes I can. The Beauregard statue in New Orleans was fine artwork. Some statues shld stay, some go.

I don't see how you can argue the first part. I've never seen a statue of most historical figures and have learned all about them.

I don't buy this "rewriting history" argument. The statues are a rewrite of history by portraying these people in a heroic light.

If we really wanted to capture history accurately, we'd build statues of people like Fredrick Douglas and MLK next to each confederate one.

I'd argue that the erection of the majority of the statues during Jim Crow and Civil Rights movement was the real rewriting of history.

That's a very discredited notion, as Jim Crow was 1867 to 1967.

Not discredited. The peak of segregationist laws came with the election of Wilson.

True, removing them plays into "our" poor White Man syndrome. Republicans love it and will win the next election if it doesn't stop.
