Jefferson wasn't a Confederate.

The slope isn't slippery, but your argument is.

This is just a ridiculous premise. The Confederacy was not America! Confederates killed Americans! Why do we celebrate them w/statues?

Respectfully, why should we be honoring confederates on government property? Jefferson isn't a confederate. There are reasonable lines here.
-
I'm not sure I'm all in for the "no confederate statues" thing but the position that there is no reasonable line seems odd to me.
-
Considering they were largely put up during times of heightened racism I'm more in that direction than against, but best a local decision.

Great point. Cities through their elected officials can choose to remove statues from public spaces, but mob action like this is never OK.

Live reenactors would be the next logical step.

The *only* reason Lee is a significant historical figure is his role defending slavery. Failing to get this distinction is passing bizarre.
-
Srsly, no one outside the US understand this. Statues of ppl best/only known as Confederates celebrates the worst villains of US history.
-
Lee might be, at best, as tragic figure, rather than a villain. But certainly no hero. Statues are for heroes.

Its as if people believe that if you take down these statues somehow you've erased your past. These statues are just moments in our history

Slippery slope fallacy. Confederates were uniquely traitorous.

Jefferson is an enigma and he should be spoken about in a truthful manner. Confederates were an entirely different issue.

Who said anything about destroying history? Are you not smart enough to grasp the difference btwn public promotion and history?
