R\s are damned if the don't condemn racism and damned if they wait 48 hours and then condemn it as if someone's holding a gun to their head.

One reporter sent one tweet. Cruz and Rubio had a low bar to cross. They crossed it. That's what we expect of everyone. Everyone.

Nope. You're either against violent racism or your not. It's not a political choice, it is a moral one.

Because the double standard is real
@mattklewis & it's unfortunate that more ppl don't think for themselves -
I'm beyond tired of the bilateral, partisan sniping. But this? No pause, ramble about 'all sides' OK when you see Nazis marching.

The problem isn't Cruz & Rubio's comments. It's that the GOP stoked the bigoted, anti-fact politics that got us here long before Trump. /1
-
GOP needs to more than return to pre-Trump. It's no longer acceptable to tell your base anything lie you want as long as it helps you win./2

A couple of points: 1. You mainly cite one NYT reporter's tweet as a reason that they are damned if they do. Majority did applaud.
-
2. I don't think it is unfair to point out that people like Cruz and Rubio condemned him before for things like Curiel, Gold Star and...
-
Access Hollywood Tape and then came running back as soon as it was politically convenient. I think people are skeptical of their sincerity.
-
Rubio's statement that Trump's lack of stance on issue is not acceptable in a nominee is particularly baffling given that he backed him.
-
We knew all of this when Trump was running so is Rubio saying things are fundamentally different now? And if so what is he doing about it?
-
Cruz stood up at the convention and told people to vote their conscience and then made a point about making calls for Trump.
-
There is a trust gap with these two.

Well done Matt. Don't always agree with you but when people do the right thing, it should be applauded, regardless of party.

Sad that you think grown men should be praised for saying the right thing Should we give them a cookie? Too little too late
-
GOP turned a blind eye to these awful people for power & to enact their cruel agenda. They deserve our scorn & disgust, not praise
-
Waiting for your latest on those "brave" GOPers who can't directly call out our racist, unhinged POTUS.
-
& cabinet members who stood benignly by him yesterday as he went on his racist rant. Hard to defend the indefensible but you'll find a way
