New Yorkers don't get the concept of letting people off an elevator before they get on. Never happens in DC; happens all the time in NYC.

DC elevators never have more than two people in them so the problem never arises

Same with Italian teenage tourists in London. Rule of thumb in tourist season is if you see an Invicta rucksack, adopt rugby scrum stance.

Ditto subway doors. Ditto highway merges. In NYC if you let somebody go first you lose. We'd rather disrupt the whole system than be losers

Those are the tourists. New Yorkers know what side of the escalator is for walking and which is for standing too!

I cannot understand what you wrote. Are you saying us NY'ers try to get on before others can get off? Then why do you say happens in NY??

They also don't get the concept of keeping their dog off me in the elevator when I'm leaving for work.

I taught my kids to always let the elevator empty before getting on. I also told them to walk on the right side of the hallway
