What is the GOP's fascinations with moderates after 2 moderates got their clocks cleaned in part cuz the base didn't show up?

@NolteNC (Playing devils advocate here.) By same logic, you could argue that only Republicans named Bush seem to win.

@mattklewis HW was Reagan II, W. was seen as an actual conservative. Base liked him. Base does not like Jeb.

@NolteNC Assuming this theory, a sincere question: Why did the base ever like George W. Bush?

@mattklewis We saw him as a conservative. Not a small detail, tho, he did not win the popular vote in 2000.

@NolteNC I don't know if the base is yet desperate after 8 yrs of Obama, but I suspect anyone who can present a winning image has a leg up.

@mattklewis I assumede base was desperate after 4 years of Obama. Romney did worse than McCain with base. Woulda' won if same. Go figure.

@NolteNC It takes 2 or 3 prez losses before a party is willing to do what it takes to win (in 2000, it was compassionate conservatism).
