I read about his inexperience as politician, but isn’t a mayor a much better role in preparation for the presidency? Seems to me to have much more in common with required skills than a representative

I think you can make a good argument that you are correct

One of his predecessors in the job - and my former boss - Gov Joe Kernan used to say that being a mayor was the hardest job in politics.
-
Michael B. Murphy compared Buttigieg to Dick Lugar. I didn’t have space to fit that in the column, but it’s an interesting comparison.
-
Well, there are some obvious comparisons (Lugar was also a Rhodes Scholar, I think). But even in the ‘70s, Indianapolis was much more of a city than South Bend.

Oh lord. Just one decent take, please.

Just because urbane liberals like something does not mean it’ll take over the country or even the democrat party.

This is exactly why I think Buttigieg has the best chance of beating Trump even though right now he's a long shot. He's talking freedom, faith and religion, and he seems very pragmatic.

God can you imagine how great he would be in the White House..... to have someone that smart with that much integrity. Seems unimaginable with the current resident.

Pete seems like a brilliant decent human being with a good record as mayor. Still, it seems like is actual policy positions are radically left.

define "radically left"....

Being open to packing SCOTUS and including the "no human is illegal" mantra re: illegal immigration

We expect the labels to start flying on Fox News any day now. Cant call him queer, its too obvious. Cant call him a snowflake, he served in Afghanistan. Cant call him dumb, he's a Rhodes scholar. I'm going wiiiiiiiith, the tried and true SOCIALIST label cause Reps are predictable

Still trying to figure out why he wouldn't be the most preferred candidate among the entire field, for Republicans. There's good reason to believe Pete would do better by them & their just concerns (there are some) than any preceding Republican president has, going back decades.
-
Problem is, the farthest liberal Left is going to have as hard of a time getting on board with that notion, as the the farthest conservative Right will. I'd say that probably means we're onto something actually constructive here.
