It’s funny. When I criticize Trump (which is often!) I am treated as a “serious,” “thoughtful,” and “intellectually honest” conservative. When I criticize the Left, I’m basically a fascist. (I’m gonna keep criticizing both sides when they’re wrong!)

Thank you. Seriously. Balanced commentary is hard to come by these days. A level headed debate with open minds on both sides is hard to find. One day people from both sides will be able to sit in a coffee shop and discuss issues calmly, and with respect. Yea, I’m Canadian.

There should be a new game like the old "in bed", except "in Canada". E.g. "I had a great family Thanksgiving discussing politics...in Canada". Or "I'm not continuously politically suspicious of everyone from work, the dry cleaner, the other dads watching soccer...in Canada".
-
It was a self deprecating statement. We are often in debates crippled by civility. We tend to attempt to inject it into conversations.
-
Was just in Toronto last weekend for Thanksgiving. Civilized discourse was refreshing!
-
It’s refreshing to be able to have a pint, or glass of wine, disagree on topics, and agree on others. Sharing thoughts and opinions is how we expand upon our own opinions. Open-mindedness is an important part of it.

As a fellow Canadian, I appreciate this sort of discussion. I follow Matt because he is generally balanced, and I say that knowing I am not always as balanced as I like. There are shitheads AND "very fine people on both sides", but we need to also listen w/empathy to recognize.
-
Precisely. Until there are open minded discussions they will simply screaming at each other. Both sides need to calm down and talk.

So you’ve just contradicted your original tweet. What you’re saying is no matter which side your criticize you get flak.

So you’ve reported that the left calls you a fascist when they’re not happy but when the right isn’t happy with your opinion “they don’t much care for it.” Can you see your own bias?

So, basically, you’ve chosen to be an “opinion journalist” and as a result you get flack from both sides and now you’re whining about flack from one of those sides. Where’s my tiny violin?

So why didn’t you mention that that in your original post vs. painting a picture against the left?

But you couldn't balance the reactions of some on the left with some on the right, and by pointing out the fact that it's only some. It's like your opinion is that you prefer the right wing and it shows in the majority of your opinions. Most call out their own party left & right.

Honestly though, I'd rather be called a cuck than a fascist. There's a difference between not being taken seriously and being seen as a serious threat to others well being. Being seen as a cuck doesn't justify violence against you, being seen as a fascist does.
