No—I said a backlash against media bias & the left we’re 2 contributing factors of Trump’s rise. (There were *numerous* factors, like tech (twitter, cable news, globalism), & some that make the Right look very bad (latent racism, anti-intellectualism, etc.) Dont be reductive.https://twitter.com/RustinRustin78/status/1050023990549340160 …

This is such a dishonest take. It was the abject bigotry and misogyny that drew the GOP around a populist wannabe authoritarian. The GOP now is full bigot and pro-authoritarian. And you blame the “liberals” - at least you admit the GOP cult can’t think for themselves.

But much of that “left wing media bias” backlash was because the media reported on and exposed the racism, xenophobic and anti-intellectualism on the right. In other words, they resented being called out on their shit.

the media & the left didn’t make the right look bad. the bad actors on the right are making the right look bad. they’re the loudest voices. that group of nazis & white nationalists made the right look bad.

the rhetoric of “chain migration” & “Muslim ban” along with implementation of policies that reinforce the rhetoric make the right look bad. chain migration used to be family reunification. Chain migration is a much better dog whistle to those racists.

& what happens when catchy phrases are used over & over, conservatives like yourself start using that terminology too. so you get lumped in with the bad. (You’ve used chain migration before & I’ve called you out on it & will continue to)

I just love how the Right never takes responsibility for their own actions. It’s always “look what you made me do”. Do you people have agency over your own actions at all???

This is a fairer point, Matt, and I appreciate you pointing me to it. But I still mostly disagree with you. If I am being unfair because you expanded upon this in a lengthier format, ignore me - but the "backlash" seems very much to ignore my later point: historical artifact.

It was hysterical, fear- inducing Fox News portrayal of the media bias and the left that lead to the "backlash." It wasn't the actual media or the left. Even today you shithead "smart, centrist" types still fall for it to rationalize yourselves and your buddies' complicity.

I disagree with the latent racism charge. The immigration debate is one of law and order. If we want to allow more immigrants in, then change the quotas and allow more in, legally. I think we can all agree on that.

As a liberal, I do find that there are definitely some issues on this side. Differing opinions, short of racism/misogyny, are not easily tolerated, and discussion is too often shut down entirely. Not much listening on either side.
