As someone who spent the better part of a decade chronicling & lamenting the rise of what came to be called “Trumpism” on the Right, it’s worth pointing out that two of the many contributing factors to this were (a) liberal media bias, and (b) the radicalization of the Left.

It is one narrow definition. But you know as well as anyone, Matt, that "mob" carries significant connotations related to violence. Continuing to describe protestors as a mob is intended only to instil fear and to escalate emotions on "your side".
-
No, it is intended to use a precise word in the English language that is (by definition) 100 percent correct.
-
mob /mäb/noun 1. a large crowd of people, especially one that is disorderly and intent on causing trouble or violence. There was nothing disorderly about the protests, and there was no intent to cause violence. This was what women had to do in order to be heard.

I think
@mattklewis does hit on something critical about modern conservatism, though -- it's a political movement completely devoid of responsibility and accountability. The people who adhere to this amoral philosophy are incapable of owning their own policies and decisions. -
You gonna take responsibility & accountably for your mates on the Left who pull this kinda crap with impunity?pic.twitter.com/aZJPvWfLb2

splc? Really? They're paying out millions for defaming people, including a Brittish Muslim man.https://www.law.com/americanlawyer/2018/06/20/southern-poverty-law-center-pays-3-4m-to-resolve-defamation-case/ …

You didn't answer the question. If harassing people at dinner is a mob, what is what happened in Charlottesville?
-
He won't answer. Angry, violent Trump cultists ran over, killed, and beat up Charlottesville protestors after marching with torches to defend pro-slavery Confederates. According to Matt, this isn't a mob. He's a partisan hack and a hypocritehttps://www.washingtonpost.com/local/white-supremacist-is-guilty-in-charlottesville-parking-garage-beating-of-black-man/2018/05/01/033396b4-4af9-11e8-8b5a-3b1697adcc2a_story.html …

Matt, you see the Trump madness yet can’t let go of the underlying sickness that caused it — a disregard for the humanity and kindness of your political rivals the Democrats. Calling fellow outraged, but peaceful, citizens a mob is the same insanity that drives Trumpism.

Most insular take of the day goes to...
-
/shrug Last I checked mobs walked around with 'torches and pitchforks', i.e. weapons and tools to, ya know, hurt people. An unarmed mob = dangerous? What should we make of armed republican 'protests' then? Just a group of concerned (and prepared to kill, if provoked) citizens?

How about not liberals but fellow Americans upset? How about a trump rally chanting and screaming to lock people up? A mob or just innocent little republicans? Get a grip Matt

They protested.

And how dare they, really? Matt would prefer they just sit down and be quiet.

The textbook definition is about violence. A large group of protesters is not a mob. Violence has been preached and practiced at Trump rallies and Charlottesville. Stop pushing the new false narrative.
-
Where did you get that definition?
-
You mean this one that says trouble or violence. It does not say trouble and violence. So it is not about violence it is about violence or trouble. Want to try Merriam-Webster? “a large and disorderly crowd of people”. Does say especially violent or riotous.pic.twitter.com/1qlTnbeeny
-
Protesting and free speech is not “trouble”. In my country we are free to voice our opinion in a civil manner. When you start calling for violence, jailing, and killing it crosses the line and becomes mob behavior. Trump has supported that behavior.
-
So that not the text book definition being about violence? I’m shocked.......
-
The textbook definition is about violence, just like it was when I had you google it.
-
But you just don’t want to cite where you got that definition. Ok sure. I screen shot the google definition for you.
