You're right for most. I've found no reason to change my view of the man but "never" was an action related to the election for me. And even then, at no point did I claim I would therefore be against things that happened under his presidency that I supported.

It’s part of being in a capitalism culture. We barter and trade, even with the only authentic resource each of us has - our integrity. We accept that the means justifies the end. They aren’t putting my kids in cages and my 401k is great. We live narrow, compartmentalized values.
-
Disagree. I will not oppose the progression of certain things because the person who is unchangeably in office is a scum bag. There are elections available to change the scumbag but I'm not going to support regression on other things just to oppose his existence.
-
Okay but you’re caught in the isolated, win now, aspects of what got us here. We are complicit in a culture that makes Trump even imaginable as a candidate. Same for Hillary. If we don’t take responsibility for the movement of the train, we will always be dealing with crashes.

Fast forward six years: I criticize the death squads plenty, but a conservative judge is a conservative judge.

Not as far as anyone I knew. And the NTers I know aren't wavering. "Never" didn't mean "until 2017."
-
It was a signal during the primaries that we wouldn't vote for Trump even if he won the nomination. It didn't mean blind opposition in everything.

I see it this way, if you support Republicans, you are fully endorsing Trumps behavior. Elected Reps have abandoned their oaths to be a check on the executive branch. I find this far more reprehensible than a few non-elected screaming protestors.
-
Support for Trump of any kind is support for dishonesty, divisiveness, attacks on our institutions, & endorsement of a wanna be authoritarian. Is everyone else not seeing the decline in human decency & the basic principles of American patriotism?

Never means never, I can’t support this man. He might do one good thing here and there but the overwhelming reality of the divide he has exploited for his gane to the peril of many can’t be forgotten. I will not support him or any of his enablers. Period.

No Matt, this was not a prom night promise. It meant never. No rationalization overcomes his fundamental lack of character and unfitness for office

All the never trump people I follow are still never trump. To me it seems they believe that ethics and principles are not situational. That’s how I live my life too.

@RadioFreeTom I imagine this depends on why they were “never.” Many anti-Trump conservatives i interviewed disliked him at varying levels and for different reasons. -
The NTers I respected the most viewed him not just as vulgar and ignorant, but as an existential threat to small-r republicanism.
-
You have gone from opposing Trump to aligning with the left. You have crossed over into enemy territory and are blinded by hate. No sane American views you as credible.
-
It's certainly a issue when you see the things you hate in Trump epitomized by your new tribe.
-
I’m not in any tribe. I will never like Trump the person. I like some of the things he has done and say so and criticize him when he deserves it which is more often. Tribalism blinds people
-
I was agreeing with you.
