I think the interesting 'value add' of this podcast discussion was the debate over whether Trump poses a bigger threat to America than the radical Left. Where you come down on that question is important, and Max clearly sees Trump as the greatest immediate threat.https://twitter.com/mattklewis/status/1046872935380791298 …

Which way do you come down on that question? Just wondering bc it seems to me like there are no radical leftists in positions of power in US. Certainly none with significant institutional power.

I’m probably more like ‘a pox on all their houses.’ But it’s nuanced. Listen to the interview, and let me know what you think!

That's the right take. Trump is in power now, while the radical left hasn't yet taken over the Democratic Party, so he's the immediate threat, while the radical left is obviously more of a medium to long term threat than any single person could possibly be.

Loved the Max Boot Interview. That said, I know you and Tucker C are friends, but I think you’re going to have to respectfully part ways with him, he’s rolling without questioning into a pretty nasty form of far-right populism. #bringbackcompassionateconservatism

The person in charge is more of a threat. This appears to be an extremely simple concept, but maybe I’m just obtuse.

i thnik that viewpoint would depend alot on what is considered the "radical left", and i think my definition of that would differ greatly from your's or Max's. More importantly it depends on what the realistic chance of the "radical left" ever coming to power.

we already know that republicans have no problem electing someone like Trump, so whats to stop an even more radical version of Trump being supported by the "far right"

The radical left, whatever that is, has no power and there is little indication they ever will. #Trump is more arrogant, ignorant, untruthful, racist, misogynist, right than radical right, but is the most divisive, dangerous US leader of modern times. #LiarInChief #IncomPotus

Stereotypically, the Left complains about the Right’s current political power, and the Right complains about the Left’s cultural power. So it primarily depends on how much you value the cultural vs. political.

I agree that Trump is the greatest *immediate* threat, but I think extremism is the biggest threat overall. This is a good reminder that the opposite of one extreme (right or left) is, by definition, another extreme, and is just as dangerous.

There’s no doubt here. Who is the “leader” of the radical left? We could throw some names out there, but none of them has the clout to threaten America. In the absence of that, we just have a few million purveyors of radical ideas. Hardly the same can be said for Trump!

Trump is the bigger threat by virtual being the POTUS and his authoritarian tendencies. However not saying the radical left is any better. Lately is hard to tell them apart any more. They both use the ends justify the means logic.
