This is a wretchedly terrible take. It's also a Putin/GOP propaganda talking point. 1/ Kavanaugh is not on trial; he's being interviewed for 1 of the 9 most important jobs on earth. 2/ All available evidence, including his calendar, corroborates Ford's accusation. Do better.

Well said. I feel oddly as if I still believe many of the things I believed back when I was a liberal, but the left has morphed into something I don't recognize. FWIW, So has the GOP, but the viciousness on the left has made them lose sight of many of their bedrock values.

As a college student my dream was to someday work for the ACLU -- you know, back when they actually stood for civil liberties for all and held themselves above the fray of partisan squabbling. Sigh...

This a distraction and irrelevant. This is not a criminal trial. Kavanagh has no vested right to a seat on the court requiring a presumption of innocence and appropriate due process before it is denied to him. Ask Merrick Garland about how much due process he was afforded.

where does it say in any legal text that someone going through a hearing to become a SC Justice is entitled to the presumption of innocence? if someone came for an interview with The Daily Beast and had question marks over sexual misconduct and lying, would you hire them?

When you have to lie about stuff, you're not innocent.

Ridiculous article. He's not on trial, and he's definitely not worthy of the SCOTUS.

Also ironic watching the "lock her up" crowd talking about due process and the presumption of innocence. At this place and time in our history... everyone's looking fairly "unattractive" if you ask me....

No one is saying he’s is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Nobody is chanting LOCK HIM UP. Nobody has filed a civil lawsuit. He still has a lifetime appointment to the 2nd highest court in the land. Voting NO just means, there are better options to fill this seat at this time.

The presumption of innocence applies only to criminal trials. This is not a criminal trial. It does not apply to a confirmation hearing for a federal judge. Full stop.
