I still love this article. I still think cruz will win bc, well, it’s Texas. But the more I see and hear Beto-he’s extremely charismatic and likeable. I don’t agree w his politics... but yeah, I can see why he’s someone to worry about.

I think he has a real shot. If I HAD to bet, I would bet on Cruz. But don't be surprised if Beto shocks the world.

(And thanks--as always--for your kind words!)

It's a good comparison. So the question begs further analysis. Would we see similar policy successes under Beto that both parties could start now, to build base support for? Where is there policy common ground, I wonder? I admit, I'm not following his platform closely.
-
I'd add, it would have been interesting to see what Beto/Flake might have attempted. Obama/McCain became a decent force for good in the Senate and Beto wont be able to accomplish much without his McCain-like counterpart. Who in the Senate today would align with him?
-
Sasse or Rubio?
-
Hmm. I believe (or want to believe) that part of what made the O/M duo work was that their respective bases liked both of them. Or at least in part trusted both. I think Rubio has a hard time building that bridge, no? Again, could just be confirmation bias and it doesn't matter.

Good article, Matt. Yeah, I saw a video of him the other night that's been all over Twitter. He's charming, moving and like you said likable, relatable... Especially to those who aren't over 65 years old. ^^https://twitter.com/BetoORourke/status/1046395685380206597 …

You should have seen the overhead shot for his rally where Willie Nelson appeared.

Awesome piece by the way Matt.

I think he’s the next Bobby Kennedy.

I understand the sentiment but I disagree with the outcome. Beto isn't the next Obama but he could be the next darling of the Democratic base.

I’ve felt the same...he is charismatic...and he lacks that divisive anger many politicians have these days....that appeals to many people.

He is better and the Dems should look out as well. Same great speaking ability as Pres Obama minus the condescending tone and divisiveness. He speaks to and for all people. Not just his party. As a moderate conservative that no longer has a party this guy gives me real hope.

Beto is certainly likable and I give him kudos for calling out the activists that harassed Cruz and his family in public. I lean left but I feel like Sasse has that same likability and civility. What I would give for a beer with both Beto AND Ben!
