Read my piece. I wanted Barrett ORIGINALLY. Now, though, I think Mike Lee is probably the smarter play....https://twitter.com/kyle_warwick/status/1045364450084016128 …

the smart money has to be on amy barrett, right? it’d be the ultimate troll move - replacing BK with a woman impervious to these accusations who in turn would be the death knell of roe

Kav's not dead yet. But yes, if he fails, they need to go w/Lee, right away.

How many Senators do you think are as good as Mike Lee? How easily can he be replaced by someone of his caliber? Keep him in the Senate.

He's from Utah. He will be replaced with another conservative. An S.Ct. seat is more important than a Senate seat.

But Lee would be replaced by an average senator, not as brilliant or gifted as he. Whereas if Kavanaugh were replaced by Kethledge or Barrett, we still get a great Supreme Court candidate, and we keep Mike Lee in the Senate. That's the better outcome.

We don't have time to get one of those in before the election. But Lee, as a senator, would be rushed through by his colleagues.

Kavanaugh was poised to kill Roe but that may have to fall on someone else’s plate now. Otherwise if the GOP really wants to try and own the Libs they’ll need to muster the strength to confirm this guy baggage and all.

Not sure I agree there. Mike Lee could look like a corrupt choice on both sides (“They voted a strong candidate down to get a senator in?!?”). Barrett resolves a lot of those issues and would leave the Dems looking obstructionist if she gets held up.

I still think a speedy *and* certain confirmation process would be guaranteed with Ted Cruz. Might even get some Democratic votes. (I'm basing this solely on how much I would *not* want to see Ted Cruz at work every day.)

How is it conservative or consistent with classical liberal values to mount a crusade to overturn a half century of jurisprudence by naming "originalist" jurists for the purpose of getting the Court out of the way of installing pinched, rigid church dogma as criminal law?

This is about changing the balance of the Court. Regardless of who is picked, the Dems are going to try to destroy them. And, now that they know that no real evidence is needed, they will be emboldened. Nobody - not even a woman - will be impervious.

You want to restore credibility to the Senate and the Supreme Court nomination/confirmation process, nominate Garland, do a thorough investigation followed by a release of ALL relevant documents, then hearings, then a vote. Any other recommendation is just more partisan BS.
