This is similar to Jonathan Haidt's thought in The Righteous Mind. Muslims having no idea how to exist as a minority is an under explored concept. If you look at Jews, they have a long cultural and intellectual history informing them of how to exist and excel as a minority.
As the communists found out, money doesn't matter nearly as much as social status. In Hungary, all of the best and most accomplished students became mathematicians because in Hungarian culture, that was a job with status, even though all jobs paid the same.
Materialist is an inadequate term. 'Money worshiper' is more accurate.
