I read a cool essay by a writer w/ a book coming out, next year. Maybe he’d want to come on my pod to promote the book? But I go to his website, & read: “My current commitments prevent me from taking on book endorsements, conference messages, interviews, and lectures.” (Ok, then)

Trust me, I know how hard it is to guard your writing time & family time. And I know you can’t say “yes” to every coffee meeting/podcast interview, etc—& frankly, some authors are so popular they don’t NEED to. But that’s not the case with the guy I’m talking about...

I just feel like if you’re going to take the time to write stuff you really care about, you owe it to the work to also build relationships that might help readers discover it. I’m amazed by the authors who write good stuff but won’t lower themselves to promote it.

There's a lot of writers I've been turned off from because of their attitude about readers, especially on twitter. I get it, there's a ton of trash on here. But it doesn't hurt to take a second and thank someone when they tweet you nice things about your work.

In comparison, writing is the easy part. Marketing hard. Most authors believe "if I write it they will come." Introvert activity vs. Extrovert activity

You sound offended. It you’re also saying the book author is a smart nobody. I don’t get it.

Maybe they just don't like to go on tour / talk to people. Doesn't mean they are a snob. Could though. Maybe they just want to eat pizza rolls and binge watch @jackryanamazon

I’ve got no facts, but might consider this choice is not about refusing to “lower” oneself to promote, rather it’s an inability. Talking about their work is painful for many many many writers. They have different skills/goals/priorities than you do perhaps.

It might not be a "lowering" themselves kind of thing. I HATE doing things like that because I'm introverted and I don't answer questions well on the fly. Book signings are torture. I do them, but I dread them. Don't know if that's the deal with this person, but it's common.
