Update: Doctor doesn’t think it’s Lyme disease. That takes a week to show up (my son says he was bitten today), looks more like a bullseye (not a ring), and the tic has to be attached for like 24 hours.

If he does ever get bitten by a tick and you can remove the tick intact, you can save it and mail it to the lab at Amherst and for a fee they will test it to determine its type and whether it carries any infections diseases. did this w my 6yo last year. https://www.tickreport.com/

Also, the bullseye can totally be a ring. Sorry, but your doc gave you bad info. My whole family has Lyme so I spend a ton of time reading about this & talking to doctors about it.

I’ve had Lyme too. I’d never take advice from a non #LLMD. I’ve never understood resistance to giving doxy at first presentation of rash. Few docs have correct info on diagnosis & treatment. People needlessly suffer.

I agree. My kids were born with Lyme, and may be able to pass it on to their kids. I gave it to my husband, & my kids could potentially pass it on to future spouses. All because I was bitten as a child & we thought it took 24 hours for transmission. It doesn't.

I spent three years being treated b/c my primary care dr was unfamiliar w/protocol. Unacceptable!

I went undiagnosed for 16+ years. That's ridiculous. It's also pretty normal.

Be aware, too, that Lyme testing is about as accurate as a coin toss... That's why it's so important to have any potential tick bites evaluated asap by a Lyme specialist. VERY IMPORTANT that they diagnose & treat according to ILADS guidelines. I learned this the hard way!

FYI, the 24 hour thing is a myth, and that sure looks like a bullseye to me. I would :absolutely: get a second opinion from an ILADS affiliated doc.

Keep a close eye on that, and have doxycycline nearby. My wife had Rocky Mt Fever from a tick, two neighbors also, brutal illness. Good luck hope it’s not tick related!

Hope he gets well soon. My daughter is very sensitive to insect bites and sometimes get big welts. So much to worry about with children.
