A few thoughts about The Cosby Show star spotted at Trader Joe's. The obvious caveat: Work is honorable, and "outing" someone like this is scummy...

If everyone gets 15 minutes of fame, then a lot of famous faces are gonna have to find ways to make money. The changing entertainment industry makes it more likely that you'll see YouTube stars or political commentators people bartending for you.

There's an episode of 'Portlandia' where they hire a cleaning lady, and it's Aimee Man. This is supposed to be satirical, but it's probably pretty close to reality.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw7Jy1ZFBUY …

Here's what would be a HOLLYWOOD ending: An indie-auteur now hires Owens to star in an artsy movie that makes him a huge star. It turns out this worked as character development.

BTW, it's hard to praise The Cosby Show these days. But literally the only parts of that show I ever found funny involved Bill schooling Eldon on how to treat Sandra. Yes, it's sadly ironic (based on today's context). But Owens had real comedic chops. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqfWEUC0BOQ …

It would be different if he posed for the pictures. What right does someone have to post a picture that he clearly was surprised by. Very uncool. And did I read it correctly, the spouse of an employee?

A deeper issue: That we seem to think working as a cashier is bad at all.

Also, life could be a lot worse than working at Trader Joe’s! The employees always look so happy! #TraderJoes

I agree. I felt saddened, not by the fact that he was bagging groceries, but by the delight many took in his perceived downfall.

Is “outing” the right word? I agree not sure it should be splattered all over social media but it is not like some big shameful secret or anything. Good for the man for an honest days wage

Who ever took and posted his pic should be ashamed. I'm sure he's embarrassed enough.

He has starred in a film as late as 2017. It’s not like he’s retired from film work. Working at Trader Joe’s is quite respectable work. The publicity will probably give him new much deserved exposure and possibly revive his acting career. He’s looking for acting work!

Same people who complain that black people are lazy and don’t work. Here they are making fun or trying to embarrass people whose work may not be as glamorous as their previous job as if it’s something to be ashamed of
