I don't remember not discussing AIDS, demonizing "welfare queens," siding with Apartheid regime as particularly compassionate?
-
Yeah, just because this era is exponentially worse doesn't mean that era's bullshit smells any better.
-
I remember high rates of unemployment, the AIDS crisis (and people being ignored), inflation, the beginning of the homeless crisis (emptying out institutions with no other plan for caring for people..)
-
Not to mention the rise of televangalism (and hate), the "moral majority" (early Tea party), Reagonomics (let's make the rich obscenely rich, and entrench others in poverty). Really not seeing this era as compassionate and positive.
-
Plenty of violent nazi skinheads in those years too. Was Reagan just Trump lite?

He turned his head and blamed AIDS on Gay men. He cut education and allowed skyrocketing health care costs, as well as for-profit colleges. He wasn't the jerk Trump is, but settle down with the compassionate bs.

And never EVER forget trickle-down-economics. A pox on working non-privileged humanity

His job creation records were smoke and mirrors. (Democrats created more jobs)http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/republicans-continue-misremember-the-reagan-jobs-record/amp …

And he destroyed the safety nets, creating a homeless crisis that continues today.http://www.sfweekly.com/news/the-great-eliminator-how-ronald-reagan-made-homelessness-permanent/ …

He destroyed mental health funding. The result? The mentally ill were pushed into the street and into the prisons. This is anything but compassionate. (And guess what? It's even worse now)https://www.kqed.org/news/11209729/did-the-emptying-of-mental-hospitals-contribute-to-homelessness-here …

Yes! I was in college when Reagan was elected. I eventually became a nurse and see the effects of this every day. It is the one thing I remember and can't forgive.

Christ I hope you are right! They are our best and only hope for saving our country before the republicans complete the destruction.

If only they would vote in droves.

I'm hoping the Parkland kids have made an impact in motivating their generation. They've proven that they can carry & amplify their message successfully. They may be just the unexpected powerful force that the left needs. Focused Passionate Unapologetic Relentless Vocal Fierce

I do not have good memories of the Reagan Admin. He was a joke in my day. He was canonized much later. He made me a staunch liberal.
