Same. The hardest part has been watching the folks who taught me those values embrace a completely different set today.

When same folks question my politics today, I say "But you're the one who taught me to think like this!"

It’s not that we don’t want new great freedom loving people, it’s that we want our elected officials to do what we asked them to do. It’s also not wrong to control the flow and make it about merit or knowing that refugees are the real deal.
-
We should thoughtfully examine immigration policies & assure that they’re sane, benefit the US & compassionate. But that’s not what’s going on. The native birth rate, especially among white Americans has been negative for 2 decades. Support women & children w/ policy & $.
-
^ this ... the fact is that we need these immigrants. And we will be needing them even more as the baby boomers retire in ever increasing numbers.
-
I agree with you.

I grew up a middle class white kid in the North East, in a Philly suburb. That’s the Republican party’s ancestral DNA. We BELIEVED in those words. We believed in Regan’s vision. I served in Regan’s 600 ship Navy during the Cold War. Sometimes I wonder what planet I’m on.
-
All of the indicators were there. Reagan's policies were clearly designed to focus on white people. He simply floated above it due to awesome rhetoric. The best thing that could happen to conservatives would be to finally admit the Reagan problem - white politics was his formula.
-
Cocaine vs Crack - good example. But the ideas aren’t wrong. Just wrongly executed.
-
The ideas were built on maximizing white identity. Look at HUD, South Africa, drug policy, evangelicalism, etc. The wrapping was nice for people privileged enough to not notice the problem.

I just spent a day at the Reagan Museum/Library (Friday) and was literally moved to tears to see and hear how a president SHOULD act,and how conservatives once looked at the world, compared to the awful mess we have now.

Dear Matt, That was before this: So sorry you need this explained to you. Have a great day. Despite your stupidity.pic.twitter.com/CfPtzqLTsS

If we change because of this then the terrorists won.
-
If we allow unfettered open door immigration, they win. Of course immigration can continue. Legally. Does the govt need to improve its system? Yes. Do the Republicans & Democrats want it to improve & change? No
-
Hey genius. We had 3-4 times as much illegal immigration before 9/11. You don't know this because you rely on garbage right-wing media. Bush and Obama drastically improved border security.
-
That’s right! Obama was putting kids in cages before Trump was even running. And I’m not a Trumpkin, FYI. Just a concerned citizen. And I suspect your numbers may be off, but ok.
-
No, they aren't off. Sort of something you need to know to opine on the matter. And no, Obama didn't cage kids by design. They kept families together and worked with the courts to create sponsorship and monitoring programs. I don't care if you're a Trumpkin.
-
Illegal Immigration went negative under Obama. Literally more people left the country than entered. This entire topic is a joke. In 2013 we had a bipartisan immigration package pass the Senate, and the shitshow that is the GOP House refused a vote they knew would pass.
