Because it's unnecessary?

I disagree with that strongly. China, in particular, has been moving strongly in the direction of establishing dominance in space.

Also a separate force having responsibility for its own procurement would reduce the chances of reliance on expensive legacy contractors...

... when we now have a bevy if cheaper options moving into the market. Blue Origin, SpaceX, possibly Richard Branson.

Odds are it saves us money over the long term. Mostly it’s being mocked bc it’s Trump and bc Newt was advocating it before.
-
It’s being mocked because it’s clear trump knows nothing about these policies and talks about his “space force” in the same nationalist, brain dead way he talks about his “military parade.”
-
Agreed. The reality, of course, is that this is unlikely to happen. Congress would have to approve this, and they're unlikely to do that if they keep getting the pushback from the Pentagon that we've seen so far.

Because Puerto Rico doesn’t have power, Flint doesn’t have clean water, we can’t keep our kids safe in school, health costs bankrupt Americans daily, and $8 billion could be better spent on any of those things than on an orange clown’s vanity project?

I'm still with the guy who said you don't get to believe Space is real if you don't believe Climate change and Evolution is real.

Other than the fact that NASA and the USAF already have that covered? Other than the fact that there is a UN treaty prohibiting the militarization of space? Other than the fact the we could use the money for universal health care, repairing Puerto Rico, fixing the water in Flint?
