OK. Your arguments are prudential. I'm sympathetic. But the modern misuse of impeachment as a partisan political tool began with the Gingrich gang and continues with the so-called Freedom Caucus and on the merits Trump ought to be removed from office.

So if we impeach Trump for legitimate obstruction of justice and other crimes, then it’s a slippery slope to being able to get rid of other corrupt politicians??

In this case, it’s totally appropriate based on the public evidence available alone. Trump’s family, senior campaign officials and the candidate himself committed something miles worse than Watergate.

What's an appropriate threshold? Clearly Trump has crossed the line on abuse of power, openly obstructing justice, using the office for personal gain, etc.

Much better for congress to start doing their job and provide a strong check and balance to executive power. My gut wants an immediate and decisive change, the kind that impeachment appears to offer. But returning health and wisdom to the system is better (James 1:4)

Your views on the politics game seem accurate. So if Dems are backing off the rhetoric, perhaps they've made the same calculation and are just biding time until after midterms?
-
. It will be expressed as “check and balance” through the midterms; but as soon as Bobby Three Sticks reports his findings (of the obvious), the real fight will begin. -
Bobby Three Sticks? I'm not familiar with this nickname ...

...under normal circumstances. I think you left that part out. Because this is not normal and impeachment is entirely the right and correct remedy for Trump.

Matt, when should people consider impeachment as an option with a politician? I totally agree that it should be the absolute last resort, but the process is there for a reason.

Great article by the way!

Would you have made this argument when Nixon was being impeached?

No, no that's fine. Impeach his ass anyway!

Who’s asking for it to be normalized? Trump should be impeached. The next President probably shouldn’t be. And the one after. We screwed this one up.

Trump is an abnormal president. Impeaching him normalizes nothing.

Hmmm I'll take that chance. I'd love to win the lotto. See, for the rich, money is the root of evil but the poor.... well, its the root of our problems

Oh and back in the 90's mike pence had a different reaction. And 8m betting if trump was a liberal in the wh, you guys would be calling for impeachment
