Rand Paul is on CNN acting like Ron Paul.

That makes sense, before today anyway. Is there a way to track how many people have left the Republican Party? His poll numbers stay the same but I wonder how much of that is because people are defecting and that’s not showing in the polls? What are your thoughts?
-
I definitely think that is part of the equation. Still, I think the attrition is over represented at the opinion leader level. I think *most* rank and file Republicans are pretty happy with him.
-
Well that’s depressing
I understand part of it, because his actual policy is not awful for the most part, but I just can’t get past the rest when I know any other republican would have made similar policy decisions. -
Yes, if a normal Republican would have done it (like SCOTUS appointments), I generally support it. But the cost of Trump’s rhetoric—and the erosion of the social fabric and institutions—are incalculable.
-
You know the weirdest part is that I doubt people would have pushed back against most of the policies like they have if it wasn’t Trump who proposed them. People like to think he’s the only one who could have done this stuff but others could have with much less damage to America

Exactly.

I would think after what happened in the Doug Jones and Connor Lamb elections...that Trump has absolutely no coattails. Trump might stir a base but he also stirs equally passionate people who loathe and cancel out his base.
