You could say conservatives ‘weaponized the First Amendment’ or that liberals abandoned the First Amendment.” - 'New York Times' journalist Adam Liptakhttps://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/fresh-air/id214089682?mt=2&i=1000415292835 …

I’m a liberal. I am a proponent of free speech. I think in this era of “money is speech” and the increase in hate speech and propaganda, and truth being shoved off our pedestal, it can look like we are abandoning it in the effort to limit the damage.

Then you are not a proponent of free speech. You should say, "I like free speech as long as I like the speech being made". Free speech is neutral that's the point.

I am a proponent of free speech. I have zero problem with ideas, opinions, beliefs different from mine. I try to be respectful. But money is not speech. And targeted harassment, slander, hate, lying, propaganda undermine free speech. I disagree w your assessment of my stance.

There you go again. Free speech with caveats is not free speech. Lying, targeted harassment , hate, propaganda (whatever this all means) is free speech. You don't seem to get it. With good things, come bad things. You don't get to be the arbiter of good and bad.

Yes. You get to do all those things. But you can be made to be responsible for the damage.

Even if both are true, it's clear bias to use the "weaponize" version. The obvious bigger story is that liberals are opposing the First Amendment. But that fits Trump's narrative, so @nytimes will never print it

You know there's something wrong with this stand. This "it's my religious belief" has been used repeatedly in this country to enable discrimination and worse. This is why the right is lost to me, this cultural inculcated conservatism masquerading as religion.
