I think it’s because of who Mike Lee is. The differences between Lee and, for example, Mitt Romney, are enormous in terms of worldviews, even within the same party. Just my thought.

Utah is pretty solidly GOP. Most Mormons are conservative.
-
Mitt isn’t. That’s not a knock on him, but he’s clearly not part of that wing of the GOP. However, Gov. Herbert is, so it seems that he would appoint a good replacement (I did some research on him this morning, he appointed Lee’s brother to the bench in Utah).
-
As I said most are. My parents, who were Mormon, were also solid Democrats.

Did nobody tell Trump that if Lee resigns, the Republican Governor is the one who'd name his replacement?
-
Look what happened with Luther Strange. Mike Lee needs to stay where he is.
-
Yea but Utah Republicans are generally saner than Alabama Republicans. Governor Gary Hebert or Mia Love would both make very good Senators.
-
Mia Love is vulnerable I would like her to stay in her seat.
-
Yea that's true. The newest poll I saw shows her losing to her Democratic opponent, the Mayor Of Salt Lake. Her biggest problem seems to be that she has lost touch with her district based on what a friend in Utah tells me.
-
She’s not losing in any poll. Latest has up by 6 points.
-
That poll only has her up six points and below 50%, which is never good for an incumbent. The Dem opponent is very popular in Salt Lake CIty. And she hasn't held a townhall in her district since 2016.

Roy Moore benefited from a low turnout primary held on an odd date in an off year. If the election had been held in conjunction with a primary and general election Luther Strange would have won. The only reason Doug Jones is a US Senator is who his opponent was!

Could see Matheson making it a race if he didn’t have a cush gig going for himself already.
