Of course you need to win an election first. And what’s to stop Trump from packing the court today. But of course he’s the one who is lawless and breaking norms.

With Trump under FBI investigation, keep it at 4-4. It will take someone from the opposing side to break from their own side making the decision more legitimate than a 5 against 4 decision.

I have always disagreed with this idea that a President's SCOTUS pick is somehow sacrosanct. POTUS initiates the process only ... The Senate has equal weight. If those 2 branches are in opposition, then a true centrist must be found.
-
Or in Merrick Garland's case, the centrist was there and they gave him the middle finger anyway.
-
GOP had control of the Senate. They broke an unwritten rule. They were doing what their constituents wanted. None of that should influence how dems operate. Copying McConnell cause they can isn't a good plan.
-
Disarming unilaterally is suicidal.
-
Disarming? This is a bicameral system. It isn't war.
-
Use your preferred metaphor. It's why Barack Obama did not give up Super PACs in 2012. His ppl figured out that if he did, he'd be finished. No Democratic Senate is going to be confirming any Republican president's judge anytime soon, never mind a SCOTUS Justice.
-
There is a law for 501c3s. There's no law for obstructing a scotus nominee. Shit comparison
-
There's no law AGAINST obstructing a SCOTUS pick afaik.

I'm more concerned about the legitimacy of
#SCOTUS, national security & the rule of law. Should a subject of an FBI investigation#TrumpRussiaCollusion get to hand-pick the Justice who will decide if he can be subpoenaed, indicted, or can pardon himself? THAT should be the story. - 1 more reply

Good analysis but one caveat. You say the reaction of Democrats will be to seek vengeance. The greatest reaction will be from women when a group of middle-aged (mostly) men make a decision that will likely result in the overturning of Roe v Wade. GOP will unleash hell’s fury.

Actually the first thing that a Dem Congress and president should do is admit DC and Puerto Rico as States. That would at least level the playing field a little in the Senate.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Kennedy the replacement pick for Bork?

It will end when Leftys eliminate the Right from governing, in the way they've been falsely accusing the Left of wanting to do for years, IF our current form of govt. survives. Otherwise, it will end with both sides killing each other, literally.
