You could say this about literally anything in politics. Did voting for Obama get us Trump?

After 2 terms the public likes a change, & yes, I *would* argue that Obama helped give us Trump. But the difference here is that I think Trump uniquely offends growing demographic groups. So there's potential for a bigger-than-normal backlash.
-
You’re onto something with “growing demographic groups...” it’s almost like he may have been elected (in part) to halt that or something.

It might be more than 12 years. Look at the millennial polling on GOP favorability. A lot of that is on Trump.

Don't get too tied up in what young people think. If they marry and have kids then statistically speaking, they automatically vote Right. If they don't marry and have kids, their ideas die with them. IF they produce illegitimate children, their ideas live on.
-
I don’t see that holding. I think a lot of it will depend on education level of kids as they get older. Don’t see all kids just naturally moving right with age.
-
The New Deal generation stayed Democrat until their dying days. The younger generation will stay Democrat due to Trump and Republicanlns not addressing their issues
-
Yep. That’s a shame too. I can pitch a pretty cool version of moderate conservatism but young folks aren’t even interested in taking 2 Minutes to hear about it. Trump has corrupted it to the root with younger people.
-
All Trump does is demonize people. He has no positive vision.

Gorsuch, Roberts, and Alito are young enough to sit for another 20-30 years. Kennedy may retire before November, and be replaced by a very conservative justice in his mid-50s. And there's no guarantee that Ginsberg will live another 2-1/2 years.
-
If the Dems don't retake the Senate in November, Thomas may step down to ensure another middle aged conservative appointment. The crucial election for the judiciary was 2016. I said so back then. But Hillary wasn't ideologically pure enough for many.

Short term gains of Trump are appealing. He managed to beat a weak Dem and got a few things passed. However Long Term Obama’s legacy got destroyed because it’s lack of legislative wins, Trump won’t be any different
-
…you just described every Presidency. Why? Because congress spends more time on vacation than working. Heck I don’t even blame Obama. May not agree with him but as my mom always says no decision is usually the worst decision.
-
1/That’s not exactly True... of course it’s a broad theory including all of Obama’s term My point is almost every major physical accomplishment besides the core part of Obamacare. (Almost every Executive order) has been undone
-
Gorsuch won’t be undone, and we see today why it matters. Two massive rulings. Tax cuts won’t be undone. I’ll make a bet with you that Trump gets law passed on immigration, that won’t be undone. More than we’ve had in recent memory. Just admit it you hate Trump the end.
-
Obama nominated more SC justices to this point, and signed a major Healthcare bill also Trump at most equals him in achievements And Psssh “I like the tax bill and the Justice he put in” ..doesn’t change history and how Obamacare got gutted regardless of Obama adding to the SC

Well ramping up their assaults on anyone daring to publicly identify as Republican should really clamp down that permanent WH spot.
