You’re on to something. It seems that Sasse can hit him on tariffs, & Rubio can hit him on ZTE, but they don’t go where Flake and Sanford (both are now cautionary tales) have gone. This raises the question: Who is being more effective for the cause of conservatism?https://twitter.com/allahpundit/status/1006958156671606784 …

Re: Sanford, has Trump tried to take out any GOPer purely for disagreeing him on policy as opposed to being openly derisive about him personally? I can’t think of one

(The huge caveat here is that Rubio and Sasse aren’t up for re-election this year. Still, I think the point holds.)

Timeline on Flake isn't quite right, no? Trump wing of GOP had already targeted him over immigration. Once he realized he couldn't win, he went after Trump personally. (Still admirable and needed, though.) Then Trump lashed back.

Hmm. I would have to go back and check. It’s so hard to keep up with this soap opera/reality show. But that may be the case...

Flake speaks about the moral rot of the GOP but doesn't do anything. Sasse speaks out about not adhering to conservative orthodoxy (like that matters to GOP voters anymore) but is MIA on the moral rot. All of them are failures and the GOP is turning into garbage.

You'd have to remind us what conservatism is. I can't tell anymore.

As an independent voter looking @gop landscape, you all need to fine tune your historical political terminology. Could Tea Party be replaced by Trump Tea? After all, if one don’t drink that beverage, one’s thirst 4 power might be unquenched.

Flake & Sanford are true Conservatives but Trump is not. The Republicans supporting Trump now seem to be a cult following only their leader. Policies no longer matter in a debate or reason for their vote. Scary time. Reminiscent of historic rises of dictatorships

What are you conserving? GDP growth? So you are okay with demographic change, moral decay and tranny kids. Just make sure companies have low taxes. "Conservatives" don't conserve anything

Sasse has hit him plenty. Refused to vote for him as I recall. When that primary comes it will be interesting. Sasse probably benefits from starting with more popularity than Sanford had. But going against Trump can erode that quick.

Sasse raises his voice only when he feels like Trump is deterring from conservative orthodoxy. At this point, it's beside the point. Sasee knows better but is a coward.
