i fail to understand why this isn't the obvious strategy of every republican. telling your voters they're wrong, ie flake, kasich, et al. rather than at least making an effort to address their concerns seems obviously doomed to fail

like you can oppose the visa lottery, which no one would ever propose new today if it weren't already on the books but now you can't change it, without going full nativist, for example
