Marco Rubio is doing something very interesting: Instead of trying to swim upstream & stand athwart the populist zeitgeist, he’s trying to co-opt it—to stress the positive aspects, and drop the pernicious ones.

Rubio’s attacks on China’s IP theft (a legit problem) is another obvious example of this strategy. People get to scratch the American nationalism itch, without delving into the more unseemly Trumpian aspects of nationalism.
