Every headline says “narrowly.” How is a 7-2 decision narrow??? (Or are they talking about the fact that this doesn’t set a broad precedent?)pic.twitter.com/5NFlcZH4xj

It's the second. The ruling is narrow because it really only applies to the facts of this particular case. There is no general rule set, and the Court does not say that a future discrimination claim in a different case would not succeed.

I’m sure you are correct. (Misleading/confusing headline for the layman reader, or just me?)

I haven't fully digested the opinion, but yea I think some of the headlines are probably misleading. Pete WIlliams on MSNBC just gave a pretty good summary of the holding.

It’s the kind of thing that makes conservatives paranoid about liberal media bias. (In this case, it could be simply an honest/semantics challenge.)

I think its more likely confusion among reporters and/or news consumers. Also, the tendancy to want to be first in reporting a decision like this often leads to errors. Remember what happened with the Obamacare decision?

I read "rules narrowly" as ruling in a narrow way. Headlines about narrow Supreme Court votes nearly always spell out "In 5-4 decision"

But part of this could just be that I already expected the court to tailor their ruling to the facts in this case and to shy away from broader readings
