Rikers reports first death in 2023 of person in custody, after deadliest year in quarter century

Judge sets $25,000 cash bail on a 65-year-old with a drug addiction charged with dealing drugs. Marvin Pines died of a stroke at Rikers today.

The person, whose identity was not disclosed to Gothamist, died in Rikers’ North Infirmary Command shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday.
