Fresno, CA seeks to get Amazon's second HQ with an 'incentive' of allowing the company to basically run the city.https://www.seattletimes.com/business/amazon/this-city-hall-brought-to-you-by-amazon/ …

In Fresno's scheme, taxes and fees generated by the company would be put into a fund whose spending would be directed by Amazon.pic.twitter.com/ZWAtrQNLu5

Fresno city official says that Amazon wouldn't have to pay taxes into a 'civic black hole', 'not for the fire department on the fringe of town, but to enhance their own investment in Fresno.” (h/t @davidsirota)

Yes it'll turn Fresno into a oligarchy, but tbh, I prefer it over the offers that give exorbitant tax-cuts. Without Amazon in Fresno, they wouldn't have the extra income anyway. At least now it'll be spent on dual-use facilities, like when the olympics come to a city

Fresno has been and still is somwhat of an oligarchy.

I wish I could “like” this in a way that indicates how appalled I am at #Fresno’s position (though glad it’s being reported).

Yeah I saw that article, but that surely cannot be blamed on Amazon, it's the cities that are desperate.

Maybe someone in Fresno could explain to Bezos/Amazon that democracy & taxes are not exclusively about self-interest.
