Today the 'arsenal of democracy' is Ford, GM, and Tesla retooling their factories so they can place online orders for ventilators with the Chinese.

What this really says is how pathetic it is that our own government can’t (or won’t) manage to procure ventilators but our companies can.

One of the few sectors of the economy that helped middle-class people wealth was small non franchise owned businesses - expect most of them to be gutted coming out of this shut down with large franchises owning it all, thereby further exacerbating wealth quality

Not sure these are the best examples... Unlike, say, Apple, the automakers actually do have large manufacturing operations in the United States. Supply chain is an issue, yes.

Well said Matt, not a better example of sorry ass state of America today. I have a feeling that coming out of this crisis America is going to take even more of what was bad before it - debt, servitude, and wealth inequality.

The sorry state of America today is that our country would not ask another country for ventilators, for the sake of saving its own citizens. It took an auto company to ask China for help. There is no way to rapidly create a ventilator manufacturing operation.
