Thinking back to older social networks—USENET, LiveJournal, Blogger—the thumbs-up/star/heart completely changed the Internet. I think by letting you respond to someone in a positive but deescalating way, which allowed hierarchies instead of peers.

"Feedback" also shows authors what works and what does not. I worry this subconsciously makes them optimize for crowd pleasing over sincerity in post content.
