"post-college adults have more serious problems than college kids" Not necessarily.... and not just because college students tend to vary in age.

Unfortunately, your first clause is untrue. College students are frequently also working part or full time, taking care of relatives, dealing with illness (their own or family members') & coping with big stuff.

Depends on what employment law/labour relations look like where you are, and also on which 'college kids' you are talking about. Eg for both 'college kids' and 'post-college adults' in the US today situations and treatment vary largely along class lines.
-
So in the US eg middle or lower class 'college kids' usually have to work, and don't have enough money to take care of what might otherwise be trivial problems. Likewise, lower and lower middle class workers often can't take their legal entitlement of leave.
-
Whereas 'college kids' that have well off parents can often have their parents help them out, and people in upper middle class work might not even have to track leave - many tech companies, for instance, have relatively open paid leave policies.
