Just mathematically, you can only optimize for both the best hires and a 50/50 gender ratio if the best hires are 50/50, but at that point it’s redundant to say you’re doing both. (And the best hires can only be 50/50 if every other part of the pipeline has zero sexism.)

.@LuisvonAhn can hire who he likes. He’s the guy the board can fire, not me. I just wish people who argued about this stuff were a little more rigorous and a little less willing to casually throw their beliefs under the bus.
