People talking about the social purpose of libraries bring up a good point I hadn’t thought of: as real estate gets more expensive and computers get cheaper, libraries need to do vastly more every year to justify their existence.
Basically libraries as socialized tech support with a cost structure based on there being no such thing as the Internet is a really bad defense of libraries. We should bulldoze them all preemptively, and rebuild if there’s demand.
