In fairness to the author, I’m glad people are becoming worried about intellectuals presenting their theories as fact. Just a couple generations behind conservative intellectuals, fellas!

only just read it - at first glance I'm willing to believe the author's stating his point of view relatively honestly but there's not much in it I can evaluate without a lot of info I don't have. so it's just another pov. ok. it doesn't move my opinion much one way or the other

confims JBP is definitely one of a certain genre of public intellectual and he's on basically the same career path as many predecessors tho: heterodox academics who get an outside of academia & the audience forms a hard core that make them a messianic figure

inevitably a debate emerges among observers abt to what extent they're deliberately cultivating and profiting from it vs just swept up in it, & inevitably a former colleague who claims they knew them well before the conversion will pop up in it
